Taiwan authorities seek international support to seek the participation of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the World Health Organization

Shenzhen satellite TV reporter: it is reported that the Taiwan authorities are striving for international support and seeking to participate in the World Health Assembly on the grounds of jointly establishing global epidemic prevention safety. May I have a comment on this? Ma Xiaoguang: as to the participation of Taiwan in the activities of international organizations, we have repeatedly stated our position that it is necessary to make reasonable arrangements through cross-Straits consultation under the principle of one China. From 2009 to 2016, under the one Chinese principle, in the context of the 92 consensus and the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, Taiwan participated in the world health conference through cross-Straits consultations. However, after the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, the Taiwan region could no longer participate in the World Health Assembly, which is well known. Nevertheless, through the arrangements we have reached with the WHO, the Taiwan region can fully and effectively obtain information on global health and epidemic prevention and other fields in time, and Taiwan experts can also participate in the relevant technical meetings and activities of the World Health Organization. According to incomplete statistics, from 2013 to 2017, a total of 58 people were sent to attend the 34 WHO technical conference in Taiwan. In 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017, the Taiwan region reported to the World Health Organization a total of 24 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza and 5 cases of human infection with avian influenza.
