Last December 11th, two people carried chainsaw and axe from their homes. Without the approval of the forestry authorities, a wild tree was chopped down and planned to be made into a coffin and shipped home. According to judicial appraisal, the wild tree that has been cut down is the Toona ciliate. It is a valuable timber tree species with high economic value. In the Chinese red book on plants, Toona ciliate is listed as the second most important protected endangered plant in China.
