Lu Kang: China will take over as the rotating chairman of the UN Security Council in November. In November, the Security Council will hold a number of meetings to consider the situation in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Lebanon, the Middle East, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Sahel. As Chairman-in-Office, China is also considering holding a public meeting of the Security Council on strengthening multilateralism and the role of the United Nations, peace and security in Africa under the current situation. We are consulting with other council members on the November work plan. The United Nations Security Council is the core of the collective security mechanism established after World War II and an important platform for global security governance. At present, the international peace and security situation is facing complex challenges. As President-in-Office of the Security Council in November, China will promote the Security Council to uphold the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, uphold objectivity and impartiality, maintain unity and cooperation, take effective action, actively promote the process of political settlement of regional hot issues, and play an important role in maintaining international peace and security. As President-in-Office of the United Nations Security Council, we will also strengthen our interaction with non-members of the Security Council, especially the relevant parties on the agenda of the Security Council, so as to carry out the responsibilities of the President of the Security Council in a more open and transparent manner.
