Tianjin Science and Technology Daily, October 30 (Reporter Sun Yusong correspondent Zhao Xijun) Recently, associate professor Jiang Jiajia of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Testing Technology and Instruments of Tianjin University imitated the regularity of sperm whales song strings and borrowed whales language to realize deepwater covert communication for the first time. This new type of bionic camouflage covert underwater acoustic communication method has the advantages of strong camouflage decoy, high concealment of information transmission, long communication distance and so on. It has great application prospects in national defense and military fields. Relevant research results are published in the new issue of the Journal of international communications, IEEE communications magazine.

In land, sea and air communications, the underwater communication represented by ocean is still the communication field that mankind is trying to explore. There are two kinds of traditional methods to solve underwater covert communication. The first one is to reduce the probability of interception by changing the parameters of artificial communication signals, such as frequency hopping and time hopping. The second method is to increase the difficulty of detecting the communication signal by reducing the transmitting power of the communication signal, but the power reduction greatly limits the communication distance and can not meet the demand of underwater long-distance covert communication.

In order to solve this problem, Tianda scientific research team firstly used sperm whales original call as communication information carrier to simulate sperm whales original call string to construct bionic communication signal string, and realized underwater communication information covert transmission by bionic camouflage strategy. Based on the constraints of autocorrelation, cross-correlation and correlation threshold, researchers selected a large number of calls satisfying the coding requirements of time-delay communication from the extracted calls pulse library. According to the rules of sperm whale calls string, a method of coding and decoding hopping differential time-delay communication was developed.

The constructed bionic communication string has a very strong performance of camouflage and deception, so it can realize highly covert transmission of information. At the same time, by camouflaging rather than reducing the transmission power of the communication wave to achieve concealment, the communication wave is not afraid of being detected and intercepted by the enemy. The validity and camouflage concealment of this technology are verified by lake test and neural network signal classifier test respectively.
