Jin Yongs name, Charles Liang Yong, was born in Haining, Zhejiang in 1924 and moved to Hongkong in 1948.

Cha Liangfu began to contact knight-errant novels at the age of 8. Since 1955, under the pen name of Jinyong, he has created his first knight-errant novel, Enmity of Swords and Books, which was serialized in the New Evening News and caused a sensation.

In the following two years, he serialized Bi Xue Jian and Shooting and Carving Heroes in the Hong Kong Business Daily, and in 1959, he serialized Sculpture and Knights in his own Ming Paper. In 1967, Cha Liangyong founded Ming Pao Weekly and created the novel laughing and fighting the rivers and lakes. By 1972, Chai Liang announced the completion of the book Lu Ding Ji.

In 2000, the highest honor of the Bauhinia medal was awarded. In 2001, the International Astronomical Society named an asteroid discovered by the Beijing Observatory Jinyong.
