Doctors were shocked when an Indonesian woman gave birth to a one-eyed baby, which died seven hours later.

Antana Ariyanto from Java and his wife Suriyanti delivered their fifth child Thursday afternoon at a hospital in North Sumatra, the Mirror reported.

But the 5-pound baby was born with only one eye on the forehead, no nose, and no other organs.

The mother was shocked to see her daughter, who had not undergone an ultrasound examination, and she and her husband locked themselves in the room together.

Doctors placed the baby in intensive care and a group of medical staff monitored her every 15 minutes, but she died at 10:44 that night.

Syarifuddin Nasution, director of the Mandailing Natal Regional Health Bureau, said: The baby was born in a deformity.

Because the baby has no nose, doctors have to supply oxygen through their mouths. Generally speaking, these babies have respiratory problems and heartburn because their heart rate is below 100 beats per minute. Syarifuddin added: this is a very rare case. If her condition improves, well transfer her to Medan, which has better medical conditions, but we know the life expectancy of this baby is very short. Syarifuddin suspects that the cause of infant disability is exposure to mercury or rubella virus (Rubellavirus). The babys parents work in the mine in the village.
