Colleges and universities are one of the scenarios with the highest demand level of network coverage for operators. Walking in the new campus of Jiangsu University of science and technology, it is even difficult to find out where the 5g base station is built in the campus with 5g signal coverage.

Shen Yong, director of the information construction and Management Office of Jiangsu University of science and technology, told the first finance and economics reporter that the 4G base station in the old campus was built by several operators alone, so there are various lines exposed in the student dormitory. By coordinating the needs of the three operators, the tower company not only realizes the full coverage of 5g signal in the new campus, but also greatly reduces the repeated construction of tower, base station and related infrastructure in the campus, and promotes the resource intensive and environment-friendly of the campus.

Taking a typical 5g base station with a single antenna as an example, the average power consumption of the base station is 3.8kw. If the average price of direct power supply is 0.636 yuan / kWh, the annual electricity cost of a single 5g base station can reach 21000 yuan. If the 5g base station reaches the current 4G base station scale, the annual expenditure of 5g power is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan.

The relevant person in charge of China Tower told reporters that at present, China Tower has taken three measures to cope with the pressure of electricity expenditure. First, continue to deepen resource sharing, and deepen cooperation with power grid companies and railway departments to reduce the cost of power introduction in various scenarios. The second is to reduce the energy consumption of supporting facilities through technological innovation, such as the implementation of intelligent management of base station air conditioning, increasing the use of natural cold sources and reducing the power consumption of air conditioning.

Third, actively implement relevant supporting policies with telecom enterprises. Under the background that the average electricity price of the transferred power supply (1.12 yuan / kWh) is more than 1.8 times of the average price of the direct power supply, we should actively promote the transformation of the transfer power supply to the direct power supply.
