Nokias Bell Labs subsidiary will work with American robotics expert intuitative machines to build a 4G communication system that will be deployed to a lunar lander by the end of 2022.
The program is part of NASAs Artemis program. The name comes from the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology. It is a plan made by the United States to return to the moon. It aims to send the first female astronaut and one male astronaut to the moon in 2024, and establish a long-term human base on the moon in 2028.

According to the announcement released by the space agency recently, compared with the current 4G standard, it will be able to provide lunar surface communication with longer distance and faster speed, and will provide important communication capabilities for astronauts to perform missions, including remote control of lunar rover, real-time navigation and transmission of HD video stream.
Nokia Bell labs also said on social media that its 4G network would be able to withstand the extreme temperature, vacuum and radiation in space, as well as the strong vibration caused by launching and landing on the uneven surface of the moon.
In addition, Nokia also pointed out in a report that 4G network can guarantee the long-term existence of human beings on the moon. In the future, there will be more landers to expand the lunar network. With the maturity of new technology standards, Nokias devices can be upgraded from 4G to 5g.
