Interview with Zeng Fanbo (source: Netease sports)
Netease Sports: you are in this period of training list, the age is relatively young, what is coach Du Feng said to you the most?
Zeng Fanbo: no matter on and off the court, director Du has taught us a lot. For example, on the court, we all have to pay 100% effort, although the strength may be different, but efforts can make up for these gaps; and the off-court guidance of Du also has a lot of education for me, he hopes that I can focus more on basketball, and not too much on social media, which is easy to be distracted.
Netease Sports: the first time into the adult national team, these 20 days of training, if you want to sum up, what is your biggest feeling? What are the gains, or are there any deficiencies?
Zeng Fanbo: Although this training is only 20 days, the time is not very long, but I also gained a lot and learned a lot. First of all, I would like to thank director Du, the coaching team and the Basketball Association for giving me the opportunity to experience the national team. At the same time, I also hope that I can slowly bring the experience of these 20 days back to my daily life. No matter where I train in the next year, whether at home or abroad, I hope to bring the spirit learned in these 20 days - not only on the court, but also off the court and patriotic spirit Some gradually integrated into my life. I also hope that I can make more efforts to prove myself in the next year. Although the training age may be younger this time, I dont think that being young is a reason or an excuse. We need to make more efforts to prove ourselves and strive to be included in the training list of national team next time.
Netease Sports: if you choose a person to be your teammate in the national team, who do you want to choose most?
Zeng Fanbo: Although the training in the past 20 days is very short, my impression of everyone and our relationship on and off the court are very good, so I cant pick them out. I prefer the team player, who can have more echo on the field and actively drive the young players, so that they can also participate in the game and confrontation.
Netease Sports: can you share some of your experience playing in the United States? For example, what was your experience and feeling in your first training session, your first formal game?
Zeng Fanbo: take my first home game as an example. It was my first game as a sophomore in senior high school, because our team has experienced reconstruction and its strength has been improved a lot. The first game was at home, so the atmosphere was good. Just in time for an activity in the University Circle, all the students, parents and friends will come to cheer for us. I feel that in that atmosphere, it may be helpful for us to play, we can enjoy the game more, and we can play our own technical characteristics and strength.
Netease Sports: as a player who once played in the United States, have you ever communicated with Zhang Zhenlin and Wang Quanze? What advice did they give you?
Zeng Fanbo: we have a lot of private communication. For example, when I first started playing in the United States, they would give me advice on how to get along with my teammates and survive in the team. Then when I gradually adapt to the life in the United States and begin to face the problems of University, they can also give me more suggestions on how to choose a university suitable for me, instead of just looking at the rankings. Will teach me how to adapt to the U.S. basketball system, as well as interpersonal relations, more is a standard between colleges and universities.
Netease Sports: whats your favorite position on the court?
Zeng Fanbo: I personally prefer position 3. But in this era of small balls, I wont divide too many positions, just according to the requirements of the coach. Im going all out to do what the coach asked me to do on the court.
Netease Sports: whos characteristics have you imitated deliberately?
Zeng Fanbo: I think everyone has his own characteristics, so I didnt try to imitate anyones characteristics. I just might take the good things from everyone to learn and absorb them, understand and change those bad habits, and try to be good at myself.
Netease Sports: in domestic and international basketball, who are your favorite players?
Zeng Fanbo: in China, I like a lot of players. For example, I prefer Sun Yue on the court if I have the same position, height and technical characteristics. In FIBA, like NBA, I prefer Kevin Durant, because his offensive means and physical talent are top-notch, which is worth learning.
Netease Sports: through what kind of opportunity do you decide to take basketball as your career?
Zeng Fanbo: since I was a child, my father has brought me personal training, and then let me gradually like basketball. When I was about 11 or 12 years old, I was the coach of Beijing Shougang No.3 team. Through a competition opportunity, he took me to Beijing team, and then on the way to the professional team.
Netease Sports: is it convenient to share something about basketball from your father, as a former professional player? How does he encourage you on the road to basketball?
Zeng Fanbo: I started training with my father since I was a child. He taught me not only some basic skills, but also some willpower. When I encounter difficulties, I cant give up this kind of skills easily. Like basketball training, many children feel boring, so my father taught me how to stick to it. Netease Sports: is there any plan after the national teams training? Do you have any news about when you will go back to America for school? If you dont go back for a while, what are your plans? Zeng Fanbo: after the training, I will go back to the Beijing Shougang reserve team for the next step of training, maybe preparing for the National Games. The school in the United States still cant go back, so its just online classes. When the season over there is restored, I will rush back to make up for the season, continue to play with the team and go to school there.
