According to Kenyas national daily, Makua was attacked by a hippopotamus in training, and was found by a teammate, kepukos, who trained with him, and rescued him before recovering his life.
I ran by the animals first, but a few seconds later, I didnt see Makua, and then I saw him struggling to break free from a hippopotamus, kopkos told the state daily. I first scared the other hippos away, and then focused on saving him from the one that attacked him
Makua was scheduled to fly to Turkey the next day for the Izmir marathon on October 4, but was not able to compete after the attack.
