A negative BoJ short-term index means that more companies are pessimistic than optimistic. In this survey, although the confidence of large enterprises has rebounded, the index is still negative, indicating that most enterprises are lack of confidence.
The survey shows that the confidence of Japans large enterprises continued to pick up in the fourth quarter, with the leading index of confidence of large manufacturing enterprises and non manufacturing enterprises being negative 17 points and negative 11 points respectively.
The survey was conducted from August 27 to September 30. Among the 9537 enterprises interviewed, the number of large enterprises was 1892.
