The hearing of Meng Wanzhous extradition case has ended and a ruling is expected to be made in February next year

The hearing on that day lasted for more than an hour. In the process of this round of hearing, the lawyers of both sides respectively stated their opinions in the court. Meng Wanzhous lawyer (defense lawyer) believes that the key evidence provided by the United States lacks the most important content and there are also false statements, which mislead the judge and is an abuse of Canadian judicial process. Based on this fact, the judge should terminate the extradition procedure. Lawyers from the Canadian Ministry of Justice (prosecution lawyers) believe that the judge should make a ruling and judgment on whether the conditions for extradition are sufficient, rather than judge the evidence provided by the US side, and ask the judge to reject Meng Wanzhous lawyers claim as the reason for the complaint.

Chief justice Heather Holmes did not rule on both sides claims. According to the courts schedule, the two sides will hold several rounds of court debates. It is expected that in February 2021, the two sides will decide whether the judicial departments of Canada and the United States have abused judicial procedures. After that, the case will enter the third round, which is also the last round of trial and ruling in the provincial high court. (head station reporter Zhang SEN)
