Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the 75th Anniversary Commemorative Summit of the United Nations

Xi Jinping pointed out that 75 years ago, the people of the world went through the bloody battle and won the great victory of the world anti fascist war. This is a victory for justice, a victory for the people. In the first half of last century, the United Nations came into being after two disastrous wars, and it has gone through an extraordinary course of 75 years. World peace and development opened a new chapter.

The 75 years of the United Nations have witnessed the rapid development of multilateralism. There are many and large problems in the world, and global challenges are rising day by day, which should and can only be solved through dialogue and cooperation. It has become a broad consensus of the international community to work together in international affairs. After the wind and rain is a rainbow. After being tested again and again, the United Nations is still full of vitality and reposes the aspiration of more than 7 billion people for a better life. The UN Charter is still an important guarantee for world peace and development.

Xi Jinping stressed that the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak is a severe test for the whole world. Mankind has entered a new era of interconnection, and the interests of all countries are closely related and their destinies are closely linked. Global threats and challenges require a strong global response. Facing the new situation and new challenges, we must seriously consider: what kind of United Nations does the world need? How should the United Nations play a role in the post epidemic era?

Xi Jinping made 4 suggestions.

One is to conduct justice. Mutual respect and equality between large and small countries are the requirements of the progress of the times and the primary principle of the UN Charter. No country has the right to take charge of international affairs, dominate the destiny of other countries, and monopolize the development advantages. Whats more, no country can do its own way in the world and engage in hegemony, hegemony and hegemony. There is no way out for unilateralism. We should adhere to the principle of joint consultation, co construction and sharing. All countries should jointly safeguard general security, share the fruits of development and jointly grasp the destiny of the world. We should effectively improve the representation and voice of developing countries in the United Nations, so that the United Nations can reflect the interests and wishes of the majority of countries in a more balanced way.

Second, we must strictly enforce the rule of law. The purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations are fundamental to the handling of international relations and an important cornerstone of the stability of the international order. They must be maintained unswervingly. The relations and interests of all countries can only be coordinated by systems and rules. We cant listen to whoever has a big fist. Great powers should take the lead in advocating and defending the international rule of law, abide by their promises, do not engage in exceptionalism and double standards, nor distort international law, infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of other countries and undermine international peace and stability in the name of the rule of law.

Third, promote cooperation. Promoting international cooperation is not only the original intention of the United Nations, but also an important purpose of the UN Charter. Relying on the cold war thinking, drawing lines with ideology and engaging in zero sum games, we can not solve our own problems, nor can we cope with the common challenges facing mankind. What we need to do is to replace conflict with dialogue, to replace coercion with consultation, to replace zero sum with win-win results, to integrate our own interests with the common interests of all countries, to expand the convergence point of common interests of all countries, and to build a harmonious and cooperative international family.

Fourth, focus on action. To practice multilateralism, we should not sit around and talk about it. We should not just prescribe prescriptions and fail to see the curative effect. The United Nations should take problem-solving as the starting point, take visible results as the guidance, and promote security, development and human rights in a balanced way. In particular, it should take the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development as an opportunity, make public health and other non-traditional security challenges a priority in the work of the United Nations, place development issues in a prominent position in the global macro framework, and pay more attention to promoting and protecting the right to survival and human rights The right to development.

Xi Jinping stressed that China is the first country to sign Chinas UN Charter, a founding member of the United Nations and the only developing country in the permanent member of the Security Council. We will always be a practitioner of multilateralism, actively participate in the reform and construction of the global governance system, firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations as the core, the international order based on international law, and the core role of the United Nations in international affairs.
