On the afternoon of September 16, Li Gang, director of cultural relics Office of Shangli County Culture, radio, television, press, publication and Tourism Bureau, told Beijing news that on the morning of 15th, he received a report from the person in charge of a construction site in Shangli Industrial Park, saying that several fossil eggs had been excavated at the construction site. Li Gang and Pingxiang Museum related experts then rushed to the scene to investigate, identified as dinosaur egg fossil.

According to Li Gang, the construction site is located near the 319 National Road in Gutang village, Penggao Town, Shangli County, Pingxiang County, Jiangxi Province. According to the public data, Pingxiang is one of the most important places of dinosaur egg fossils in South China. From 2002 to 2014, nearly 200 dinosaur eggs were found in Cretaceous red beds in Pingxiang area. According to the distribution and preservation of dinosaur eggs found in Pingxiang, the Cretaceous Pingxiang area was the breeding and living place of dinosaurs.

Dr. Wang Qiang said that it was commendable for the construction company to stop work immediately and protect the site after discovering fossils, which is conducive to the development of follow-up research and restoration work.

Wang Qiang said that through preliminary identification, the dinosaur egg fossils discovered this time are honeycomb eggs of early Late Cretaceous, about 90 million years ago. Beehive eggs are a large group of dinosaur eggs. The main feature is that the chord section of egg shell has honeycomb structure.
