According to the plan, which is worth about 1 trillion won (960 million US dollars), the Australian army is expected to purchase 30 sets of K-9 self-propelled howitzers and 15 K-10 ammunition supply vehicles. A detailed proposal will be submitted by the Australian branch of Korean Hanhua defense company, the developer of the K-9 self-propelled howitzer.

In 2010, Australia chose South Koreas K-9 self-propelled howitzer as the only bidder for its procurement project, but the project was canceled two years later due to budget problems. Last year, the Australian government announced the restart of the project.

In order to help expand Australias defense industrial facilities, South Korea and China have promised to build relevant production facilities in Australias Jilong region and help train local labor forces.

South Korea has exported K-9 self-propelled howitzers to Turkey, Poland, India, Norway and Estonia, and there are about 1700 sets of K-9 self-propelled howitzers in service around the world, the company said.
