Kishida also said that he is currently preparing for the election, but he will officially announce his candidacy after the election schedule is determined, the report said. NHK analysis said that the election schedule may be formally finalized on September 1.
Mr. Ishida served as Japans foreign minister from 2012 to 2017, the second longest serving foreign minister of Japan after the war, second only to Yoshida.
