Israel and UAE will cooperate to build an intelligence gathering base overlooking the Mander Strait

The base will be built on Socotra Island, the largest of Yemens many islands, the report said. A joint delegation from Israel and the United Arab Emirates has recently arrived on the island to select specific locations for the base.

The report quoted a senior Eritrean official, who asked not to be named, as saying that Israel began to build an intelligence gathering base on a high mountain in Ethiopia in 2016 to monitor the military operations of Saudi led coalition forces in Yemen.

The intelligence gathering base monitors the movements of the husai armed elements, the regional activities of the Iranian navy, and maritime and air traffic in the Red Sea.

Not long ago, Israel and the United Arab Emirates normalized their relations under the mediation of the United States. In exchange, Israel is expected to give up expanding sovereignty over parts of the West Bank under Palestinian control.

The normalization of relations between the two sides has triggered different reactions in the world. Some countries believe that this will contribute to stability in the Middle East, while others, including Iran and the Palestinian national authority, regard it as a mistake and a betrayal to the Palestinian people.
