Cnil, the French data privacy regulator, said on Tuesday it was conducting a preliminary investigation into tiktok after receiving complaints against the Chinese video sharing app tiktok in May this year.
Cnil started investigation in May 2020 tiktok.com Website and tiktok app. Cnil did receive complaints at the time, a spokesman for the agency said in a written comment to Reuters.
So far, cnil is still investigating and participating in the work currently being carried out in Europe.
Asked about the cnil survey in France, tiktok said, protecting the privacy and security of tiktok users is our top priority. We are aware of cnils investigation and are fully cooperating with them.
A cnil spokesman said the survey covered the extent of information provided to tiktok users, how users exercised their rights, how data flowed out of the EU, and measures taken to protect minors.
Cnil is a member of the recently established EU tiktok working group. A cnil spokesman said the company was reviewing tiktoks plans to enter the region and wanted the Irish Data Protection Council (DPC) to be its main national regulator.
The composition of the working group has not been announced.
