On August 10, the 2020 Fortune 500 list was released. This is the 26th year in a row that fortune magazine has released this list of the worlds largest companies.

Among the top 500 enterprises with the highest income in the world, 133 enterprises from China ranked first, followed by the United States with 121 enterprises on the list. After last year, China surpassed the United States in the global competition for large enterprises for the second time, taking the lead.

There are 25 new and re listed companies in this years fortune 500 list, including 8 new Chinese companies.

It is worth mentioning that six of the top ten companies that have jumped the fastest in the ranking are insurance companies, and Prudential Group of the UK has jumped 292 places. The two fastest-growing companies in China also came from the insurance industry, with AIA rising 138 places and Cathay Pacific Financial holding up 81.

In this years world top 500 ranking, Wal Mart ranked first in the world for seven consecutive years, with revenue of 523.964 billion US dollars. Wal Mart also has the largest number of employees, with 2.2 million employees.

Sinopec, State Grid and PetroChina ranked second, third and fourth. Shell oil fell to fifth place.

In addition, Saudi Aramco, the sixth largest oil company in the world, has a revenue of 329.8 billion US dollars and is listed on the Riyadh stock exchange. With a profit of 88.2 billion US dollars, Saudi Aramco has become the most profitable company in the Fortune 500.

Berkshire Hathaway came in second with $81.4 billion in profits, while apple fell third. The three major banks of China, namely industry, agriculture and construction, continue to rank in the top 10 of the profit list.

With the excellent performance of cloud business, Microsofts profit increased by nearly 137% year on year, ranking fifth in the top 10 profit list.

In addition, a total of 45 companies failed to make profits this year. In the subsidiary list of loss making companies, Pemex lost about $18.038 billion, becoming the largest loss making company.

Among them, 9 companies in China have lost money, and China National Chemical Corporation has the largest loss, with a loss of about 1.25 billion US dollars.

This year, a total of 133 Chinese enterprises have been listed in the worlds top 500, the largest number in history. This is also the 17th consecutive year of growth in the number of Chinese enterprises.

In 1997, only four enterprises in Chinese mainland entered the list. In 2001, China joined the world trade organization, and 12 Chinese enterprises entered the ranking list in that year, and then increased rapidly year by year.

Since 2008, the number of Chinese enterprises in the list has accelerated. First it surpassed Germany, France and Britain, and then Japan.

According to fortune, no other country or region has seen such a rapid growth in the number of Companies in the worlds top 500 companies since it was released in 1995.

The scale of Chinas shortlisted enterprises continues to expand

More than 26% of revenue

With the rapid growth of Chinas economic aggregate, the scale of Chinese enterprises on the list is growing rapidly.

This year, the threshold for the worlds top 500 enterprises to enter the list is annual revenue of US $25.4 billion, an increase of 2.42% over last year. The total operating revenue of the listed companies reached 33 trillion US dollars, a record high, close to the total GDP of China and the United States.

Among them, the cumulative revenue of Chinas enterprises on the list is 8.74 trillion US dollars (accounting for 26.24% of the total revenue of the worlds top 500), and there is still a certain distance between Chinas and the United States 9.81 trillion US dollars (accounting for 29.45%).

There are 25 new and re listed enterprises in this years world top 500 list. Among them, 8 Chinese enterprises are newly listed. They are Shanghai Construction Engineering, Shenzhen investment holding, Shenghong, Shandong Iron and steel, Shanghai pharmaceutical, Guangxi investment, Chinas nuclear industry and China coal energy.

So, where are the 133 Chinese enterprises mainly distributed?

According to the statistics of 21 data news laboratory, Beijing has the largest number of enterprises, accounting for 41.34%, followed by Guangdong, with a total of 14 enterprises on the list.

Specifically, there are 21 enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao big bay area, an increase of 1 over last year, accounting for 15.79%, and operating revenue exceeding 1.33 trillion US dollars. Among them, 7 enterprises in Shenzhen, 4 in Guangzhou, 2 in Foshan and 1 in Zhuhai; 7 enterprises are headquartered in Hong Kong.

Distribution changes of Chinese enterprises in the worlds top 500 enterprises

In terms of ranking, the overall ranking of these 21 enterprises in Dawan district has been improved, with a total of 14 enterprises rising.

Among them, Ping An of China, Huawei, China Resources and Zhengwei group were among the top 100 enterprises; the fastest growing company was AIA, which rose 138 places, ranking 250th.

With the promotion of these enterprises in the list, the bay area economy has risen strongly.

Compared with 10 years ago, Guangdongs GDP just exceeded 5 trillion yuan in 2011. At that time, there were only 7 enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and bay area, and only 3 enterprises in Guangdong, including China Southern Power Grid, Ping An insurance and Huawei, entered the list.

What industries are 133 Chinese enterprises mainly distributed in?

According to the statistics of 21 data news laboratory, in 2020, 22 enterprises came from energy and mineral resources, followed by information technology and commercial trade, with 13 enterprises on the list.

Industry distribution changes of Chinas top 500 enterprises

It is worth noting that there are seven Internet related enterprises on the list this year, all of which are spent in China and the United States, including Jingdong, Alibaba, Tencent, Xiaomi group in China, and Amazon, alphabet and Facebook in the United States.

Among them, Alibabas ranking increased by 50 places to 132nd.

Tencent from Dawan District ranked 197th, up 40 places.

After the first time on the list in 2019, Xiaomi group was listed again, ranking 422, up 46 places compared with last year.

In addition, despite all kinds of challenges, Huawei has maintained an upward momentum, rising from 61st last year to 49th this year, and the increase rate is the same as that of the previous year. Data shows that Huaweis revenue is 124.316 billion US dollars.

Foxconns parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., ranked 26th with $172.9 billion in revenue.
