When Jeff Bezos founded Amazon website in 1994, it was just an online book sales website. During this period, Barnes&Noble, Waldenbooks and CrownBooks were the leaders of the American shopping center bookstore industry.
Now, for most people, Amazons name has almost become a synonym for online retail, and now it has expanded to cloud computing, electronics, technology products and entertainment. As of August 3, 2008, Amazon had a market capitalization of $897.47 billion (6147.67 billion yuan), making it hard to believe that it only sells books.
Amazon has been promoting innovation. As new inventions emerge, some patents help companies to have competitive advantages in technology and products to attract more customers. According to the American patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), patent refers to the right of proprietary invention, a right to prohibit the manufacture, use, sale, or sale of the invention in the United States, or the introduction of the invention to the United States.
As of March 20, 2018, Amazon had 7,717 U.S. patents in two commercial entities, Amazon Technologies and Amazon. From the chart below, we can see that Amazon technology is one of the 15 companies that have been granted the largest number of patents in 2017.

AR glasses for improving distribution (or monitoring employees)?

Features: Amazon recently patented an AR glasses that can be used to track userswork. The patent is called AugmentedRealityUserinterfacefacilitatingfulfillment. According to the patent application, this is a wearable device, such as AR glasses worn on the users head. The user interface is presented on one or more lenses of augmented reality glasses that help employees locate items in Amazons distribution center. In addition, AR glasses also have a function: to provide people with a distribution centers destination direction. This helps them find their destinations easily because all relevant information is presented on the lens.

The patent has been criticized for fears it could infringe on the privacy of warehouse employees and track their every move. However, Amazon defended the application, saying it had nothing to do with employee monitoring. Since it is a patent, there is no guarantee that it will really enter the market.

Features: last month, Amazon won a patent called Robotictossingofitemsininventorysystem in the inventory system. According to the patent application, robot arm or manipulator can be used to throw objects in the inventory system. The throwing strategy of the robot arm may include: the robot arm obtains the information of moving and releasing the grasping object, and moves the object to the receiving position.
The use of mechanical arms to deliver items to the destination can help improve the throughput of the inventory system. This is possible because the robotic arm will help reduce the time it takes to get the object directly on the surface. The content of the patent is: the delivery strategy may be at least to a certain extent based on a database, which contains information and features of objects and similar items, for example, some information that shows whether these items were delivered in the past.
Amazons goal is to respond to the challenges facing modern inventory systems such as supply chain distribution centers, airport baggage systems, and the need for inventory items.
The patent has come under criticism because one example of the application is a dwarf statue, which some fear could lead to ridicule of short people. But Amazon argues that our purpose is simply to illustrate the mobile products of robotic arms, which should not be extended beyond the context.

Features: in June this year, Amazon won a patent for audio system applications called Accenttranslation, which would help to translate the speakers accent into a listeners accent. The accent translation system collects audio samples from different sources, such as telephone, television, film, radio, etc. Each audio sample will be associated with at least one accent sample set that appears in its database.
