A week ago, it was the largest offshore wind turbine in China. But the title was quickly taken away by other rivals - on July 7, Mingyang intelligent (601615. SH) released its latest 11mw offshore wind turbine, setting a new record for Chinas largest wind turbine capacity.
Since this year, the competition of wind turbine enterprises in the offshore wind power market is increasingly fierce. In order to seize the market, the large megawatt unit products invested heavily in R & D were launched.
On April 28, Jinfeng Technology (002202. SZ) 8 MW offshore wind turbine completed the lifting of the prototype.
On June 8, Shanghai Electric (601727. SH) 8 MW offshore wind turbine realized black start power generation.
On June 16, Taiyuan Heavy Industry (600169. SH) disclosed in its annual report in 2019 that its 8mW offshore wind turbine had passed the design certification, and officially entered the ranks of complete machine enterprises with 8mW and above offshore wind turbines.
This is the competition of technical strength and market share of wind turbine enterprises.
The former three giants
Before 2019, Shanghai Electric, Yuanjing energy and Goldwind technology almost split up Chinas offshore wind power market share.
According to the statistical bulletin of Chinas wind power hoisting capacity in 2018, by the end of 2018, Chinas offshore wind power had a cumulative installed capacity of 4.445 million kilowatts. The cumulative proportion of offshore wind power installed by the above three enterprises reached 85.9%. Among them, Shanghai electric leads with 50.9% market share.
In 2018, Chinas offshore wind power capacity increased by 42.7% to 1.655 million kilowatts.
Shanghai Electrics newly increased hoisting capacity was the largest, accounting for 43.9%; the newly increased installed capacity of Yuanjing energy and Jinfeng technology accounted for 24.39% and 24.27% respectively, with the top three class a accounting for 92.67%.
Shanghai Electric is the fifth wind turbine enterprise in China. Through product licensing cooperation with Siemens, an international complete machine giant, it has introduced the latters mature offshore wind turbine technology and supply chain system, and has been ranked first in domestic offshore wind power market share for many years.
In November 2014, the first swt-4.0mw wind turbine jointly manufactured by Shanghai Electric and Siemens was offline. An insider of Shanghai Electric, who did not want to be named, told interface news that once the unit was launched, it was very popular in the market. Up to now, it is still the offshore wind turbine with the largest market share and the most mature technology in China.
Since 2016, Shanghai Electric has successively introduced Siemens 6MW and 7mw series offshore wind turbines. According to the above-mentioned people, this series of products are relatively mature, all of which are designed on the same platform, with high universality of components and low delivery difficulty.
Golden wind technology, Chinas largest wind power company, has earlier deployed offshore wind power.
In 2007, Goldwind provided a 1.5MW wind turbine for Chinas first offshore test wind turbine platform in Bohai Bay.
In 2011, Goldwind technology decided to invest in offshore wind power, started to develop 6MW offshore units, and completed the trial production of key components in that year. In 2012, its 6MW prototype was assembled and started to promote the 10MW unit project supported by the national 863 Program Research on the design and technology of super large offshore wind turbines.
However, in the following years, Goldwind technology judged that the development of offshore wind power was slow, so it turned to a conservative position and shelved the R & D investment of 6MW and larger MW offshore wind turbines.
This old wind power enterprise, which has experienced the brutal growth and cruel reshuffle of the industry, has always had a prudent and prudent style. In addition, it monopolized the onshore wind power market in Xinjiang and other places for a long time, and its market share was guaranteed, which also made it not eager to capture the offshore wind power market with high risk at that time.
After missing the opportunity of offshore wind power development, Goldwind technology did not start to catch up until 2018.
In October of that year, Goldwind Technology launched gw184-6.45mw offshore large turbine units and gw168-8mw offshore large capacity units, and arranged the electricity markets in Jiangsu, Fujian, Guangdong and Shandong, and stabilized the top three offshore wind turbine units in that year.
Prospect energy, the second largest wind turbine manufacturer in China, once led the megawatt trend of offshore wind power.
In July 2013, the prototype of en-136 / 4.0 offshore wind turbine with a single unit capacity of 4MW developed by prospect energy was hoisted at the test wind farm in Rudong intertidal zone of Longyuan, and the first 4wm offshore wind turbine in China was set up before Shanghai Electric.
In 2015, the single unit power of the series of offshore wind turbines was upgraded to 4.2MW. In 2017, vision energy launched 4.5mw offshore wind turbine based on the same platform.
However, for a long time after that, prospect energy has been sticking to 4 MW offshore wind turbine products and has not pursued large MW units.
According to prospect energy, the key to competition among manufacturers is lower cost of offshore wind power, rather than large capacity.
The top four share the world equally
With the breakthrough of Chinas offshore wind power equipment and engineering technology capability, as well as the catalysis of national policies, the situation that the three giants dominate the country has been broken.
In May 2018, the national development and Reform Commission issued the notice on relevant requirements for wind power construction and management in 2018, requiring all newly approved offshore wind power projects in each province from 2019 to configure and determine the grid price through competition.
This means that for the newly approved offshore wind power projects after 2019, developers need to bid with the benchmark price as the upper limit, and the lower the declared price, the greater the chance to obtain the development right of offshore wind power resources.
In order to lock in the on grid price of 0.85 yuan / kWh and collect more high price projects, offshore wind power developers set off a tide of approval in 2018.
Among them, Guangdong Province is the most active.
Previously, Guangdong, Fujian and other provinces were cautious about the development of offshore wind power, and Jiangsu Province was the largest market for offshore wind power development in China.
In 2018, Guangdong Province approved and approved 31 offshore wind power projects, with a total installed capacity of about 18.7 million kilowatts, becoming the province with the largest amount of approval in that year.
Mingyang intelligent (601615. SH), headquartered in Guangdong Province, enjoys the advantages of local location and makes rapid progress in the offshore wind power market.
In 2019, Mingyang intelligent will break the monopoly situation of Shanghai Electric, prospect energy and Jinfeng technology, and form a market pattern in which the top four are equally divided.
According to Guoxin Securities Research Report, from 2016 to 2019, Shanghai Electrics share of offshore wind power was diluted from 83% to 29%; prospective energy increased from 9% to 27%; Goldwind technology increased from 8% to 26%; Mingyang intelligent market share increased from 0 in 2016 to 22%.
According to Huachuang Securities Research Report, from January to November 2019, a total of 39 offshore wind power projects across the country started bidding for wind turbines, with a bidding capacity of 14.44gw. Among them, the total bidding volume of Guangdong Province is 8.16gw, accounting for more than half.
Among the 9.86gw projects that have been opened, Shanghai Electric Co., Ltd. won the bid of 4.97gw, accounting for 50%; Mingyang intelligent won the bid of 3.16gw, accounting for 32%; the two leading manufacturers won the bid totaling 82%, occupying the absolute market share of domestic offshore wind power.
Jinfeng technology won the bid of 1.5gw, ranking the third, accounting for 15%. Xiangdian wind energy and Dongfang Electric won the bid of 152mw and 100MW respectively, accounting for 3% in total.
The market share of Mingyang intelligent in Guangdong Province is still increasing.
Among the 20 offshore wind power projects with a total bidding volume of 8.41gw announced by Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Mingyang intelligent won 5.01gw, accounting for 59.57%; Shanghai Electric won 1.8gw, accounting for 21.4%. Dongfang Electric and Jinfeng technology won the bid of 800MW and 700MW respectively.
In this wave of rush loading tide, the local governments in Guangdong and Fujian have shown a trend of following the foreign preference for megawatts. Large megawatt units have more power generation and have advantages in bidding.
This greatly promotes the updating iteration of large capacity offshore wind turbines. Chinas offshore wind turbine capacity from the previous mainstream 4MW to a larger megawatt leap.
In line with the policy trend, Mingyang intelligent has successively launched 5.5MW, 6.45mw, 7.25mw and 8-10mw semi direct driven offshore wind turbines.
Sinovel wind power and united power, the old offshore wind power manufacturers, have fallen behind in this round of competition.
Vision energy lost its tickets to Guangdong and Fujian because it did not launch a larger MW offshore wind turbine product. According to the financial data of Pengbo new energy, the new lifting capacity of offshore wind power of prospective energy in 2019 is 675mw, of which 97% is from Jiangsu Province.
In this process, Mingyang intelligent began to take advantage of the opportunity to impact the top three positions in Chinas offshore wind turbine market.
According to Mingyang intelligent insiders who do not want to be named, Guangdong Province has clearly given local subsidies to offshore wind power. In addition, other provinces and cities of Mingyang are also active in the offshore wind power market.
In the accelerated offshore wind power track, in the past, the three giants encountered not only Mingyang intelligent, but also other pursuers.
Dongfang wind power, for example, hopes to achieve overtaking on a curve with a large megawatt offshore wind turbine.
Unlike Shanghai Electric, which is assisted by foreign offshore wind power giants in R & D, Goldwind technology and prospective energy have a relatively long-term offshore wind power layout, and are also different from the gradual iterative upgrading of Mingyang intelligent offshore wind power megawatt. Dongfang wind powers offshore wind turbine directly leaps from 5MW to 10MW.
Dongfang wind power is a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric (600875. SH). In order to seize the early stage of offshore wind power market, Dongfang wind power also adopted the low price competition strategy.
In Fujian Xinghua Bay phase II (bid section II) offshore wind power project, Dongfang wind power won the bid with a total bid price of 6590 yuan per kilowatt, which is about 500 yuan / kW lower than that of its competitors Goldwind technology and Shanghai Electric.

Xiangdian wind energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xiangdian wind energy) and China Shipbuilding Industry Group (CSIC) haizhuang Wind Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China offshore) are also closely following the megawatt development of offshore wind power.
The wind energy distribution of Xiangdian is earlier than that of offshore wind power. In 2009, it acquired Darwin company of the Netherlands and obtained the R & D technology and related patents of 5MW permanent magnet direct drive offshore wind turbine. Xiangdian wind energy has said that it will develop 7-8mw offshore wind turbine.
In 2009, CSL has set up Jiangsu haizhuang wind power equipment Co., Ltd. in Rudong to produce 5MW offshore wind turbines and 2MW, 2.5MW and 3MW onshore wind turbines.
On July 21, the official information of China offshore showed that its h171-6.2mw and h152-6.2mw offshore wind turbines have been offline.
At present, the 8mW and 10MW wind turbines of China offshore have entered the research and development stage.
Taiyuan Heavy Industry also hopes to catch up with the megawatt process and compete for a place in the future offshore wind power market.
Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. is the first listed company in Chinas heavy machinery industry. Wind power generation equipment is one of its main businesses, ranking the last among the above wind turbine enterprises. In 2018, it ranked 21st in the domestic complete machine market, with a market share of 0.24%.
The annual report shows that Taiyuan Heavy Industrys 5MW offshore wind turbine was connected to the grid last year, and the 8mW offshore wind turbine has been successfully developed.
Since the beginning of this year, vision energy has also started a defensive battle, and its distribution momentum outside the three main offshore wind power markets has become increasingly fierce.
According to the statistics of China wind power news network, in the first half of the year, the total scale of offshore wind power projects that have been opened in the domestic market exceeded 6000 MW, involving five complete machine suppliers. Among them, the medium scalar of 1550mw is the first in the long-term energy market.
Since May, prospect energy has successively won several offshore wind power projects in Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang, with a total of about 1.7gw, accounting for about one-third of the national market share in the first half of the year.
According to the bid winning scale, apart from the traditional Jiangsu market, prospect energy has become the No.1 supplier of offshore wind power in Shandong and Zhejiang.
But prospect energy still does not advocate the pursuit of large megawatt wind turbine. Recently, it was slower than the industry to launch 5.2mw offshore wind turbine.
Vision Energy said that the lower cost of electricity per kilowatt hour and whether the model can bring positive changes to the sustainable development and acceleration of intelligent development of offshore wind power are the basic considerations for it to launch offshore wind turbine products.
Tian Qingjun, senior vice president of vision energy, told the interface news that only the 5-6mw wind turbine specially designed for medium and low wind speed is the most suitable mainstream model for Chinas offshore wind farms.
Vision Energy said that it has developed a low-cost offshore model for areas with high wind speed such as Fujian. For Chinas wide range of low and medium wind speed sea areas, a new type of offshore wind turbine will be launched in the near future with a cost of about 5 cents per kilowatt hour.
