Earlier, foreign media reported that an Indian employee who had worked for Alibabas UC browser claimed that he was fired for opposing the censorship and false news content on the companys app, according to an Indian court document. The former employee also presented some screenshots as evidence that Alibabas ucnews app had released fake news about India, especially the headline section. Indian courts have issued subpoenas to Alibaba, Ma Yun (founder of Alibaba), and more than a dozen individuals or companies to appear in court or through lawyers on July 29.
On June 29 this year, the Ministry of electronic information technology of India announced that 59 Chinese applications, including ucnews, UC browser, tiktok, wechat and microblog, were banned for reasons of security concerns. UC has suspended its operations in India and started to lay off workers.
