 China and India hold the 17th meeting of the working mechanism of consultation and coordination on border affairs


On July 24, 2020, Hong Liang, director general of the Department of border and ocean affairs of the Ministry of foreign affairs of India, jointly presided over the 17th meeting of the China India border affairs consultation and coordination working mechanism in video form with the East Asia Department of the Ministry of foreign affairs of India. Representatives of foreign affairs, national defense, immigration and other departments of the two countries attended. The two sides exchanged candid and in-depth views on the recent border situation between China and India, and fully affirmed the positive progress made by the frontline border forces of the two countries to break away from contact and ease the local situation.

The two sides stressed that in accordance with the important consensus reached by the foreign ministers of the two countries and the special representative on border issues, the two sides will maintain bilateral military and diplomatic dialogue and consultation, properly handle the remaining problems in the field, and promote the further cooling of the border situation. The two sides agreed to continue to hold meetings on the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on border affairs and the talks at the military commander level of the border defense forces of the two countries to strengthen the construction of confidence building measures in the border areas and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas.
