ATP announces cancellation of 2020 China tennis season, including four tournaments

Chinas General Administration of sport issued a directive earlier this month that China will no longer host major international sports events in 2020. Therefore, the only one stop in Asia, the Shanghai Rolex masters, atp500 China open, atp250 Chengdu open and atp250 Zhuhai tennis championship, will be cancelled.

In addition to the four ATP Tour events affected, the policy also applies to other major international events in China, including those originally planned.

In the case of this epidemic, we will follow the guidance of the relevant local departments for the organization of activities. We respect the decision made by the Chinese government in response to the unprecedented global pandemic, which is the best way to be responsible to the country. We regret to announce that this years ATP tour will not be held in China, ATP chairman Andrea gordenz said. These important events are the cornerstone of the development of the ATP tour in Asia. Thank you for your cooperation. Chinese fans are the most enthusiastic fans in the world and I know our players are looking forward to the next chance to play in front of them

ATP will continue to adjust the schedule for the rest of the 2020 season until the November East ATP finals. The latest schedule is expected to be released in two weeks.
