On April 28, 2020, Mr. Sun Yang applied to the Swiss Supreme Court for revocation of the arbitration award made by the international sports arbitration tribunal on February 28, 2020. In this arbitration award, the arbitration tribunal imposed a ban on Sun Yang for eight years.

In addition to applying for revocation of the arbitral award, Mr. Sun Yang applied for a retrial of the arbitral award on June 15, 2020.

Please note that Mr. Sun Yang and his team of lawyers will not be interviewed during the trial and will not comment further on the case.

Mr. Sun Yang will continue to firmly defend his legitimate rights to prove his innocence. He would like to thank the swimming fans and the public for their consistent support.

The case of Sun Yang started on September 4, 2018, when Sun Yang received an off match doping test in Hangzhou. However, the inspection was not completed due to doubts about the qualification certificate presented by the inspectors. In January 2019, fina ruled that the inspection was invalid, and Sun Yang did not violate the World Anti Doping regulations. However, two months later, Wada appealed to the International Court of sports arbitration for dissatisfaction with the ruling.

During Wadas appeal, Sun Yang participated in the Gwangju swimming world championships in July 2019 as usual. As a result, at the awarding ceremony after winning the 400m freestyle and 200m freestyle, Australias Horton and British Scott successively refused to take the prize with him, causing great controversy in the swimming field. On July 19, Sun Yang and his team of lawyers issued a statement demanding that the hearings held by the International Court of arbitration for sport be open to the public in order to be transparent and to prove their innocence. On August 27, Sun Yang responded positively to the drug test storm for the first time, saying that he had strictly complied with the regulations of the International Anti Doping Agency and actively cooperated with the work of the inspectors.

On November 15, the hearing of Sun Yangs case was held in Montreux, Switzerland, which lasted for 10 hours and was broadcast live to the world through the Internet. At the hearing, Sun Yang and his lawyer team presented a large amount of evidence, trying to restore the truth of the incident and defend their innocence and legitimate rights and interests, including the failure of IDTM inspectors to issue relevant qualification certificates, illegal cross regional blood sampling by inspectors in charge of blood tests, and violation of doping regulations by urine inspectors by taking photos of Sun Yang Eight inspectors did not attend the days hearing.

In the middle of January 2020, Sun Yang appeared on the track for the last time so far. He successively participated in the fina Championship Series in Shenzhen and Beijing, winning three championships in five days. On February 28, the International Court of arbitration for sport announced the verdict of the World Anti Doping Agency appealed to Sun Yang and the International Swimming Federation case hearing. Sun Yang was banned for eight years, which takes effect from now. However, the result of this ruling is not the final result, and Sun Yang can still appeal to the Swiss Federal Court.

On March 2, Sun Yang issued another paper on the result of the eight year ban of the international arbitration court, explaining the incident of violent anti examination and smashing blood samples exposed before, and exposed the intact blood samples, which was his last public speech. On April 28, according to a report by the foreign media swimming world, Sun Yang has appealed against his judgment that he was banned for eight years. However, the Swiss Federal Court will not consider the issue of the case itself when handling such appeal cases. Their jurisdiction is in terms of law, such as whether the hearing is due in legal procedures and whether the human rights of the parties are respected.

On July 17, Sun Yang, on behalf of Bernard Lawson international law firm, issued a statement, which said: Mr. Sun Yang has applied to the Swiss Supreme Court on April 28, 2020 to rescind the arbitration award made by the international sports arbitration tribunal on February 28, 2020. In this arbitration award, the arbitration tribunal imposed a ban on Sun Yang for eight years. In addition to applying for revocation of the arbitration award, Mr. Sun Yang on On June 15, 2020, he applied for a retrial of the arbitration award. Please note that during the trial of the case, Mr. Sun Yang and his lawyer team will not accept interviews or make further comments on the case. Mr. Sun Yang will continue to firmly defend his legal rights to prove his innocence. He would like to express his gratitude to swimming fans and the public for their consistent support.

Since March 2, Sun Yang has not spoken in public, but according to the content of the statement, he has never given up and has been insisting on appealing. However, due to the epidemic, the time for the Swiss Federal Court to accept the appeal and hear has not been determined.
