Chinas response to Canadas sanctions against Hong Kong suspension of extradition treaty

Zhao Lijian said that Canadas erroneous remarks about Hong Kong and the announced measures ignore the basic fact that Hong Kongs national security law contributes to the stability of one country, two systems, seriously violates international law and basic norms of international relations, and grossly interferes in Chinas internal affairs. China strongly condemns this and reserves the right to make further response. All consequences arising from this will be entirely borne by Canada.

Hong Kong affairs are Chinas internal affairs, and foreign countries have no right to interfere. Zhao Lijian said that the Chinese government is unswervingly determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, and that it is determined to oppose external forces interfering in Hong Kong affairs. Any attempt to exert pressure on China will never succeed. China urges Canada to immediately correct its mistakes and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and Chinas internal affairs in any way, so as to avoid further damage to China Canada relations.
