Australia will acquire three mq-4c UAVs to strengthen its reconnaissance capability

Chris dible, chief executive of Northrop Grummans Australian unit, said the three mq-4cs were part of the initial small volume production of the drone. In addition to three UAVs, the $333.4 million contract also includes two main control stations, one front control station, and multiple intelligent accessories.

Chris dible said funding for the production of the mq-4c drone was suspended in the U.S. Navys draft 2021 and 2022 budgets, while orders from Australia filled the gap.

If Australia can commit to order four more mq-4cs, the last one is expected to be delivered by 2026. He said.

Australias 2016 national defense white paper estimates that its air force needs seven mq-4c unmanned aerial vehicles to assist the p-8a Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
