A: China always believes that maintaining and implementing the comprehensive agreement is the only right way to solve the Iranian nuclear issue. Recently, State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi sent a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations and the president in office of the Security Council, stressing that the comprehensive agreement, approved by the UN Security Council in its resolution 2231, is an important outcome of multilateral diplomacy and a key element of the international nuclear non-proliferation system. China firmly upholds the authority of Security Council resolutions and the effectiveness of comprehensive agreements. All provisions of Security Council resolution 2231 should be seriously implemented. Irans reduction in compliance with the agreement is the result of extreme US pressure. We urge the US side to abandon unilateral sanctions and long arm jurisdiction and return to the right track of abiding by the comprehensive agreement and Security Council resolutions. At the same time, the parties to the comprehensive agreement should take effective measures to restore the balance of rights and obligations under the comprehensive agreement. As a renegade of the comprehensive agreement, the United States has no right to ask the Security Council to start the mechanism of quick recovery of sanctions.
China is willing to work with the international community, including the European side, to abide by the comprehensive agreement and the Security Council resolution, uphold multilateralism and promote the political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue. At the same time, we will firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.
