Japanese defense ministry said unidentified submarines were found near Kagoshima

NHK: foreign submarines are sailing near Amami Island, suspected to be Chinese Navy submarines

Japans Maritime Self Defense Forces frigate and anti submarine patrol aircraft found the submarines movement on the afternoon of 18th, when it was diving westward in the adjacent area of northeast Mori Oshima, NHK said Tuesday, citing the Ministry of defense. Confirmed by the maritime self defense forces once again, the unidentified submarine had sailed out of the northeastern waters of Amami island before the morning of the 20th, and continued to sail westward along the East China Sea, without entering the Japanese territorial waters.

Japanese defense ministry officials said that from the information collected, it is suspected that the submarine is a Chinese Navy submarine.

Relevant personnel also said that the submarine sailed from the Pacific Ocean to the East China Sea and sailed in the narrow sea area between the Amami island and the tokala islands. The defense ministry believed that the submarine route was abnormal and decided to carry out an analysis and investigation of its navigation purpose. Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono announced on the 20th that Japans Maritime Self Defense Force will remain vigilant and be ready for all risks in intelligence collection and enhanced vigilance.
