The study was published Monday in the New England Journal of medicine. Researchers from Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway and other countries conducted genome-wide association studies and meta-analysis on about 1600 new crown patients and 2200 control groups in Italy and Spain.
Results the researchers not only found a new coronavirus susceptible gene locus in severe patients with new crown, but also found that ABO blood group system may be related to the risk of new crown infection. The analysis shows that the risk of new crown infection in a blood group is 45% higher than that in non-A blood group, and the risk of new crown infection in O blood group is 35% lower than that in non-O blood group.
The biological mechanism behind this may be related to factors such as differences in N-glycan neutralizing antibodies and gene variation in different blood groups, the researchers said. Whether the results of this study can help to assess the clinical risk of patients with new crowns remains to be further studied.
