Apple closed some retail stores in the United States again due to the outbreak

In view of the current situation of the new coronavirus epidemic in some communities we serve, we have temporarily closed retail stores in these places, an apple spokesman said in a statement. While we are closely following the epidemic, we have taken this measure with great caution, and we hope our team can resume business as soon as possible and provide services to consumers again.

Apple said the closure would affect 11 Apple retail stores in those States. These retail locations are located in the WatersideShops and CoconutPoint shopping centers in Florida, SouthPark and NorthLake shopping centers in North Carolina, Haywood shopping center in South Carolina, and Chandler fashion center in Arizona, Scottsdale Fashion Plaza, Arrowhead, SanTanVillage, ScottsdaleQuarter and LaEncantada.

Apple said the temporarily closed retail stores still provide equipment repair services to consumers over the weekend. The company also said the compensation of employees who had been temporarily shut down remained unchanged. Apple didnt provide a specific timetable for when the stores would reopen.

To prevent further spread of the new crown, apple initially closed all retail stores except China in March.

Later, apple reopened most of its U.S. retail stores, but cautiously, as anti epidemic measures eased. Some of them are fully opened to the public, allowing consumers to enter the store for purchase; some only provide window service, not allowing consumers to enter the store for activities; and some only accept the booking purchase service. Apple also requires customers to follow anti epidemic measures, keep social distance and wear masks when entering the store.

In a letter released to Apple consumers in May, Deirdre OBrien, Apples head of retail operations, said the company would assess the epidemic in the location of the retail store and decide whether to close the existing retail store again based on the assessment.

We dont have to rush to a decision, but things are changing and retail stores that are opening may be closed again to prevent the outbreak, OBrien said at the time

Tan Desai, who director general, said the global outbreak of the new coronavirus is accelerating, with a record 150000 cases worldwide within one day on Thursday alone. Meanwhile, there has been a surge in infections in several states in the United States, including Florida, North Carolina, Oklahoma, California, Texas and Arizona. So far, the number of confirmed infections in the United States has exceeded 2.2 million, leading to at least 118000 deaths, according to reports. This situation is prompting local governments in the United States to consider new measures.

The news that Apple closed stores again dragged down Apples share price. Apple shares fell $2.01, or 0.57%, to close at $349.72 on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange on Friday local time. In after hours trading, the stock fell another $2.20, or 0.63%, to $347.52. (Tianmen Mountain)
