In this study, Zhejiang University and Institute of genetic development of Chinese Academy of Sciences and other teams worked together to tackle key problems. Using the research platform of soybean functional genes, we found that sweet 10 (sweet10) gene played a key role in controlling soybean seed development and oil accumulation. At the same time, through the DNA sequencing and character correlation analysis of more than 800 wild and cultivated soybean gene resources, it is proved that Tian 10 gene plays an important role in the process of soybean domestication.
It was further found that the weight, oil content and protein content of 100 soybean seeds decreased by 40.2%, 40.7% and 32.1% respectively. If the expression of sweet 10 gene is increased in the cultivated soybean, the weight and oil content of 100 soybean seeds will be significantly increased, and the yield per plant of soybean can be increased by 11% to 20%.
Shouhuixia said the research can be directly applied to the molecular marker assisted breeding of soybean yield and quality traits. In addition, the research team also found another sweet 15 gene that regulates the number of soybean grains in the early stage, which is expected to make a greater breakthrough in high yield, high quality and other important properties of Soybean after superposing with the results of this research.
