Busan group world table tennis tournament was originally scheduled to be held from March 22 to 29, 2020, but affected by the epidemic, it is tentatively scheduled to be held from September 27 to October 4 after two postponements.
According to the notice on the website of ITTF, all decisions of the executive committee meeting are as follows:
According to the current situation, most teams may not be able to enter South Korea smoothly in September. In view of this reality, the Executive Committee of ITTF agreed to require the local organizing committee of Busan, South Korea to re select the event date and try to hold the world table tennis team championship of the Bank of Korea in the first few months of 2021.
ITTF continues to promote the annual congress to be held on September 28, 2020. If the Busan world table tennis championship is postponed again, the annual congress will be held in the form of network.
Once the final situation of the World Table Tennis Championships has been confirmed, and considering that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been postponed, ITTF will conduct a comprehensive review of the original planned event calendar in 2021 in the coming weeks.
With regard to the arrangement of events in 2020, ITTF still hopes to hold international open events in the last quarter of 2020. At the same time, ITTF has begun to study the possibility of holding regional or Invitational events before that.
With the active participation of the Athletes Committee and through close consultation, the Executive Committee of ITTF has approved the adjustment of the qualification system for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. After being confirmed by the IOC and IPC, the final adjustment plan will be released.
Through its foundation and WTT world table tennis Major League, the Executive Committee of ITTF will provide financial assistance to national associations, players and foundations affected by the epidemic. More information about this project will be released in the near future.
In view of the recent global events, the ITTF Executive Committee once again reiterated its zero tolerance policy for any form of racial discrimination.
The Executive Committee of ITTF will hold another meeting on June 23, and more updates on the new crown will be released at that time. (end)
