The latest picture of vikrand, Indias first domestic aircraft carrier

According to a report on the defense world website in late January, India said that the first sea trial of the aircraft carrier vikrand would be held in mid-2020. In February, the Indian Navy also said that the vikrand will start sea trial on April 10. But judging from the progress of the latest exposure, it is almost impossible for the vikrand to have a sea trial in the middle of the year.

Since the construction and keel laying of the vikrand aircraft carrier began in 2009, progress has been delayed. At the end of 2011, the carrier was launched ahead of time in order to free other ships from the dock, and then returned to the dock for further construction; in August 2012, the vikrand was officially launched, but only 30% of it was completed at that time, and even the ship island was not installed. In the subsequent construction process, the progress of the project is also very slow, and the cost is also rising all the way.

Until the end of last year, the construction of the vikrand finally made substantial progress - the first successful ignition of the gas turbine engine on the aircraft carrier, marking the formal operation of the power system of Indias first domestic aircraft carrier.

At that time, Indian media reported that the next step in India will be to continue the mooring test of the vikrand, which is expected to be delivered in 2022. However, according to the current progress, it is still unknown when the vikrand will be officially delivered for use.
