According to the Research Report on the Internet use of minors nationwide in 2019 (hereinafter referred to as the report) jointly released by the Ministry of Youth Rights and interests of the Communist Youth League Central Committee and China Internet Network Information Center recently, the number of Chinese minors has reached one point seven five Billion yuan, and the Internet penetration rate of urban and rural minors is respectively 93.9% and 90.3% u3002 As a vigorous force, they began to participate in drawing the blueprint of Chinas online world. Urban and rural penetration rate is over 90%

Whats worth noting here is that the total number of minors referred to in the report is 188 million, that is, the population of general primary school, junior high school, general high school and secondary vocational education (excluding Adult Education) in China Statistical Yearbook 2019 issued by the National Bureau of statistics, excluding the number of under-6 and non student groups.

Compared with the relevant report data released in 2018, we can find that the gap between urban and Rural Minors network penetration rate is from that in 2018 Five point four Percentage points down to Three point six Percentage points, reflecting a big step forward in the digital equalization of urban and rural areas.

According to the 45th statistical report on Chinas Internet Development released at the end of April, as of March this year, the number of Internet users in China was 904 million, with an Internet penetration rate of 64.5%. The statistical deadline of the report is the end of 2019. Although there is a time difference of about three months between the two, they are still referential. By comparison, we can find that the Internet penetration rate of minors is still 28.6 percentage points higher than that of the national population. The Internet penetration rate of minors in some age groups is even as high as 99%. The high degree of Internet participation fully shows that they are the real indigenous people in the Internet world.

Among all kinds of network terminals, mobile phones continue to maintain the status of first screen in terms of Internet access for urban and Rural Minors. According to the survey, the proportion of Internet users using mobile phones in urban and rural areas is 94.0% and 93.4% respectively, almost the same. There are great differences between urban and Rural Minors in laptop and tablet access to the Internet. Specifically, the proportion of Rural Minors using laptop and tablet is 15.7 and 10.9 percentage points higher than that of Urban Minors.

To some extent, this reflects the reality that these two types of Internet terminals are relatively few in rural areas. In terms of minors access to the Internet through TV, 2019 is much higher than 2018, with the proportion from 46.7% Upgrade to 56.7% u3002

Nearly 90% of online learning

The Internet has become the main support to promote the reform of educational informatization and the development of knowledge inclusive. There are various types of online learning, including using the Internet to do homework, review, memorize words, answer questions online, online course learning, etc. The proportion of all kinds of online learning activities of minors has increased to varying degrees compared with 2018. Among them, the proportion of learning extra-curricular knowledge and review through the Internet increased by more than 5 percentage points compared with 2018, and the proportion of learning through professional online education platform increased by 3.9 percentage points compared with 2018.

For the evaluation of the effect of online learning, the report provides relevant data in the form of survey. 66.1% of the Internet users think that online has a positive impact on their own learning, 13.1 percentage points higher than 53.0% in 2018. Among them, 14.6% thought to have a very positive impact, increased by 1.3 percentage points compared with 13.3% in 2018; 51.5% thought to have some help, increased by 11.8 percentage points compared with 39.7% in 2018; 11.4% thought to have a learning setback due to too long online time, decreased by 8.1 percentage points compared with 19.5% in 2018. This fully shows that for learning, the network is a double-edged sword, and only by using it correctly can we benefit from it, while the more tired and more Chinese minor Internet users are learning to use the network correctly, seeking advantages and avoiding disadvantages. With the support of relevant departments, the online extracurricular knowledge education mode represented by large-scale online open courses, namely Mogao, is extended as an extension of the concept of Internet plus education. It provides a good platform for self-learning for minors and becomes an important resource for them to expand their knowledge.

In addition to learning, the Internet has become an important tool for minors to play and socialize. According to the report, listening to music and playing games continue to be the main online entertainment activities of minors, accounting for 65.9% and 61.0% respectively. The former as a way of entertainment for minors is accepted by parents, schools and other parties, but the latter caused a lot of controversy. In recent years, with the rapid development of online game industry, with the popularity of smart phones, the penetration to the minors is more rapid. According to the survey, 61.0% of the Internet users often play games on the Internet, and mobile phones are the main equipment for them to play games on the Internet. More than half of primary school students play mobile games; 61.2% and 59.2% of junior and senior high school students play mobile games; 71.7% of secondary vocational school students play mobile games. Short video is a booming Internet entertainment service in recent years. In 2019, the proportion of young Internet users who regularly watched short videos on the Internet reached 46.2%, 5.7 percentage points higher than that in 2018, which was 40.5%.

More than 65% of Internet users rely on self-study
