2020 is the key year for Chinas 5g network construction. At the world telecommunication and information society day 2020 Conference on May 17, Chinas three major operations disclosed the latest 5g progress.
Gao Tongqing, deputy general manager of China Mobile Communications Group, said that by the end of April, China Mobile had a total of 4.62 million base stations nationwide, including nearly 140000 5g base stations, with a scale of more than 300000 by the end of the year.
China Telecom and China Unicom have actively promoted 5g co construction and sharing. As of April, 100000 5g base stations have been opened in total, and 5g co construction and sharing has been opened in 31 provinces across the country, realizing 5g official commercial use in more than 50 cities, and striving to complete the construction task of 250000 base stations nationwide by 2020.
This means that at present, the number of 5g base stations in China has reached 240000, and the number has reached one-half of the annual target.
5g as a new type of infrastructure construction, the impact on the economy can not be ignored. Tianfeng Securities pointed out in the research report that 5g, on the one hand, as a new infrastructure of science and technology, can play a direct role in stabilizing investment; on the other hand, 5g will be closely combined with the vertical industry, spawning a large number of 5g new applications, indirectly driving greater demand for information consumption.

Take Guangdong as an example. Up to now, Guangdong Unicom has opened 20000 5g stations. By the end of 2020, 5g network will cover all county-level areas and towns in developed areas in Guangdong Province.
In April this year, China Unicom, together with Huawei and Tencent, officially released the worlds first MEC scale commercial network, exploring the testing practice of scenarios such as acceleration of edge cloud applications and computing power operation, laying a good foundation for the blowout of 5g cloud games, VR live broadcast, 8K Ultra HD video and other businesses.
In addition, the first financial reporter learned from Guangdong Mobile that Guangdong Mobile has built 26000 5g base stations, more than 6 million customers have used 5g packages, and more than 2.6 million customers have used 5g mobile phones. According to the staff of Guangdong Mobile Engineering Construction Department, 1750 5g base stations have been built and opened in the recent week, setting a new record since the outbreak.
At present, the number of 5g package users in China has exceeded 50 million. By the end of this year, it is expected that more than 600000 5g base stations will be built in China, and the number of 5g users will exceed 200 million. Dong Ming, vice president of Huaweis China region, said at an online industry summit forum that this also proves to the world that Chinas 5g is running out of the world speed.
Hu Jianbo, chief engineer of China Academy of communications, said that 5g business in China has been accelerating. This year, more than 60 5g mobile phones have been released in China, which is significantly higher than that in the early stage of 4G business, and the landing speed of 5g in China is accelerating day by day.
For the world 5g industry trend and development prospect, GSMA statistics, as of the first quarter of this year, 62 operators have used 5g networks in 32 countries / regions. It is estimated that by 2025, the number of 5g users in the world will reach 1.7 billion, while the number of 5g users in China will exceed the total number of 5g users in the United States, Europe and other Asian countries.
