TSMC plans to build a 5nm wafer plant in Arizona, with a planned monthly production capacity of 20000 pieces. It is expected to start construction in 2021 and mass production in 2024, which is the second production base of TSMC in the United States. It is estimated that new plant expenditure (including capital expenditure) will be invested about US $12 billion between 2021 and 2029.
The report points out that compared with Taiwan, which has complete industrial chains including IC design, seal testing, memory, material and equipment factories, PCB modules and other industries, the United States lacks a complete semiconductor industry chain. In addition, due to TSMCs strict requirements for advanced technology and materials, the market pays attention to whether the upstream and downstream supply chains will follow its footsteps and go to the US design plant.
It is reported that Sunmoon currently has subsidiaries in Silicon Valley, but the scale is not large. As for whether to expand the plant in the United States or not, Sunmoon investment control said that the global layout is the core value of Sunmoons business operation, and whether to expand the plant in the United States will be based on the cost, and depends on the market and customer demand.
