During the call, Shinzo Abe proposed a plan to postpone the Tokyo Olympic Games for about one year, taking into account the athletes preparations for the Olympic Games and other factors. Among the plans previously revealed by people familiar with the matter, there are two plans to be held in the spring and autumn of 2021, aiming to avoid the hot summer.

The IOC will hold an Interim Council after the conference call to discuss the extension of the Tokyo Olympics.
