The 47 year old suspect, armed with a pistol, went to general Trias at around 8 a.m. local time Monday, killing a 59 year old woman and injuring a 57 year old man, police said Monday. The gunman then shot another person and then shot another woman near her home.
Police said two officers were injured in the process when the gunman opened fire on a police car heading to the scene of the crime. Police added that the gunman then shot himself.
Police also said five of the injured were being treated at a local hospital. Police seized the pistol used by the gunman and are investigating.
According to the Philippine Institute of volcanic seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred near Laite City, Laite Province, central Philippines, at about 05:19 a.m. on March 2. The epicenter of the earthquake was 11.33 degrees north latitude, 124.54 degrees east longitude, and the focal depth was 9 kilometers. Losses are expected, with aftershocks. According to Philippine media reports, local schools have announced the suspension of classes.
