Scientists in the United States have found that the virus has probably spread in the United States for six weeks

The scientist, Trevor Bedford, is an associate professor of epidemiology at Washington State University. He was once reported by the New York Times and the financial times because he participated in the analysis of the virus sample gene of the first new coronavirus infection in the United States on January 19.

And just this afternoon, Beijing time, Trevor Bedford announced an amazing discovery on his personal social account.

He said that by analyzing the case of a newly diagnosed patient in Snohomish County, Washington state yesterday, he found that the new coronavirus infected by the young patient who was diagnosed on February 29 in Beijing time is likely to have evolved from the virus infected by the first confirmed case in the United States on January 19.

Previously, a paper published in the international authoritative medical journal New England Journal of Medicine showed that the first case of new coronavirus infection in the United States confirmed on January 19 had a travel history in Wuhan before the onset of the disease. But whats more remarkable is that after returning to the United States from Wuhan, he also lived in Snohomish County, where new confirmed cases appeared on February 29.

As a result, Trevor Bedford said he thought it might mean that the new coronavirus had already spread in local communities in the United States as early as January 19, and that the spread might have been happening for six weeks.

I believe we may be facing an outbreak of the new coronavirus in Washington state, but because the previous detection standard of the virus is too dead, only people who have been to China will be tested, so it has not been found, the scientist wrote.

He also believes that the actual number of cases in Washington may have been a few hundred smaller.

It is worth mentioning that although Trevor Bedford also raised another possibility in his post, that the virus of the first confirmed case in the United States on January 19 is genetically similar to the virus of the newly confirmed case on February 29, perhaps just a coincidence, he said that the occurrence of such a coincidence is unlikely.

At present, the New York Times has also followed up the report, saying that the new coronavirus is likely to have spread in Washington State for several weeks.

And according to the report of the newspaper, the scale of local infection may even be in the range of 150 to 1500 people
