Overseas, March 1 (Xinhua) - on March 1 local time, Muhyiddin Yassin, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, was sworn in as the eighth Prime Minister of the country.

According to Malaysias todays Malaysia and China Daily, on the same day, Mahmoud Yassin formally became the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia after taking the oath of secrecy and taking office in front of the head of state of Malaysia and signing relevant documents. Local media pointed out that the whole ceremony started at 10:30 a.m. and lasted about 13 minutes.

Malaysias supreme head of state Abdullah agreed to appoint former Deputy Prime Minister Mahmoud Yassin as the new prime minister, the Royal Palace said in a statement on February 29.
