Amazons Jeff Bezos, Microsofts co-founder Bill Gates and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, the worlds top three richest people, suffered the most, with their combined wealth evaporating about $30 billion.
In the past week, Elon musock, chief executive of Tesla Motors, ranked fourth in wealth losses, with losses of $9 billion. However, in 2020, its wealth still increased by $8.8 billion, and its net assets were $36.3 billion. Musk is the 25th richest man in the world.
In Bloombergs wealth ranking, about 80% of billionaires are at a loss this year. Over the past week, Micky Alison, chairman of the US based Carnival Cruise group, has lost $1bn in wealth. The diamond princess, owned by the worlds largest cruise operator, has been quarantined since it arrived in Yokohama, Japan, on February 3, with 3500 passengers and crew on board, hundreds of whom have tested positive for coronavirus infection, including at least dozens of Americans.
