Chen Wei, a female major general who entered Hubei Province to fight against the epidemic

29 years of playing poison, saving countless people

An outstanding scientist fighting against SARS, the terminator of Ebola

Its thought to be the prototype of doctorchen in wolf 2

On January 26, on the second day of the lunar new year, Chen Wei, 54, led the expert group to Wuhan.

Two days later (January 28), the new coronavirus (2019 ncov) nucleic acid detection kit (RT-PCR fluorescence probe method) jointly developed by the Military Medical Research Institute and local companies passed the emergency approval of the State Drug Administration and obtained the medical device registration certificate.

Hurry up.

Walking fast, speaking fast and working fast are the habits she has developed in her scientific research career for more than 20 years, because she always feels that time is not enough.

This kind of fast rhythm even makes many male colleagues around blush: her thinking is very sharp, she can handle many things at the same time, and always cant keep up with her rhythm.

In 1966, Chen Wei was born in Lanxi City, Zhejiang Province.

As a child of others family, Chen Wei is not only beautiful, but also a learning bully with excellent and stable performance.

In 1988, Chen Wei graduated from Zhejiang University. Obtained the only qualification of Zhejiang University to send Tsinghua University, and successfully entered Tsinghua University for masters degree in biochemistry.

But at this time, she didnt want to be a scientist.

Her long hair is flowing, avant-garde and fashionable. When netizens saw her photos when she was young, they shouted first love face.

Chen Wei, a lively student of science, is fond of literature and dance and often patronizes the students canteen dance on weekends. She was also the first waitress in the University cafe.

In 1990, an opportunity to get antibodies from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences made her understand here. She was attracted by the cutting-edge topics and research equipment here, and had a strong desire to join in it.

In 1991, Chen Wei, who graduated with a masters degree, made a choice: join the army and go to the Academy of Military Medical Sciences for scientific research. Many people didnt understand her choice, because before that, she had signed a contract with a famous biology company in the south. If she followed the plan, she would live a high paid white-collar life. Family and friends all think that the masters degree from Tsinghua University to the army is equivalent to bury themselves, and even think that joining the army is lagging behind.

But Chen Wei, who is independent and independent, insisted on her decision.

In 1998, Chen Wei, 32, graduated from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences with a doctors degree. In the same year, she became a mother, but after only one month of maternity leave, she returned to the laboratory. In a few years, Chen Wei seldom goes home and goes back to the dormitory before 12 oclock.

On the evening of the Lunar New Years Eve, she took time to see her parents-in-law. When she went back to the lab, she saw only the liquid on the ground. After two months of cell experiments, she suddenly disappeared. She stood alone in the lab and cried loudly.

In the spring of 2003, SARS broke out, schools were closed, entertainment places were closed, and the whole country fell into a panic.

At the critical moment, Chen Wei, 37, was ordered to develop a vaccine to prevent SARS. She spent no weekends or holidays in the laboratory every day.

Taking care of the children was left to Ma Yiming, her husband.

They met on the train. Chen Wei, then a graduate student of Tsinghua University, was invited by his classmates to travel to Mount Tai in Shandong Province.

I met Ma Yiming on the way. When I got off the bus, Ma Yiming asked Chen Wei for a phone number. Chen Wei, a cheerful person, said, just as it happens, we just installed a phone in our dormitory, so we told her the number..

Ma Yiming, as a treasure, keeps it in mind.

In the pursuit of Ma Yiming, the two came together in 1992.

After marriage, Ma Yiming took on most of the housework, relieving Chen Wei of her worries about her busy scientific research work. He refused to let her do housework, thinking it was a waste of her talents, because she was more valuable to do other things.

In 2003, Chen Weis research institute took the lead in isolating a new type of coronavirus in China and determined the culprit of SARS.

She led the research team to take the risk of life and make zero distance contact with SARS virus to carry out cell test in vitro and build a new animal experimental model.

Although the team has a high-level biosafety laboratory, the corresponding protective clothing is not enough. Chen Weis team insists on relying on the existing conditions and creating conditions without conditions.

At the crucial time of the experiment, Chen Wei and his team did not close their eyes for 48 hours in the laboratory, and finally got an encouraging result: thanks to the protection of interferon, the cells were safe under the attack of SARS virus.

In the subsequent large animal and clinical experiments, Chen Wei and the team were isolated separately because of daily zero distance contact with high concentration of SARS virus.

For more than 100 days, Ma Yiming and his 4-and-a-half-year-old son couldnt see Chen Wei.

One day, Ma Yiming was told that there might be scenes of Chen Wei in todays Oriental time and space. He and his son were at home staring at the TV set. As soon as his mother came out, his son jumped up and kissed the TV. This scene was photographed by careful Ma Yiming.

Chen Wei has traveled to 83 designated hospitals of SARS in China to guide the use of drugs and collect data among high-risk groups. Her efforts are not inferior to those of others. She has verified the effectiveness of interferon in the shortest time.

On April 28, 2003, the recombinant human Omega interferon developed by her and her team was approved by the State Food and Drug Administration and allowed to enter clinical practice.

In order to meet the urgent need, Chen Wei organized the whole room to work overtime, and fought for more than 20 days and nights outside the camp, so that the daily output of recombinant human interferon spray was increased from the first hundred to twenty thousand.

Afterwards, she personally delivered more than 2000 nasal sprays to Xiaotangshan Hospital in time. According to statistics, a total of 14 thousand medical staff used the recombinant human interferon sprays, and other protective measures were taken without infection.

The reporter asked her, face to face with SARS every day, Im afraid of it.

Chen Wei blurted out, wearing this uniform means that you should do all this.

In this year, she won the top ten outstanding young people in 2003 and the China Youth Science and technology innovation outstanding award.

Wenchuan earthquake in May 2008.

Chen Wei served as the deputy leader of the disaster assessment group of the National Committee of earthquake experts, organized the preparation of 30 Q & A on post earthquake health and disease prevention and the knowledge manual on health and epidemic prevention and psychological assistance, and led a team to Sichuan in the aftershock, fighting epidemic for two months.

After returning home from the disaster area, he immediately joined the military Olympic security command group expert group and successfully disposed of multiple suspected biological events.

Dance with poison

In 2004, Chen Wei turned to Ebola, the virus with the highest death rate.

In 2006, Chen Weis team recombinant Ebola vaccine project was supported by the national 863 Plan.

In 2014, a large-scale Ebola outbreak broke out in West Africa and spread rapidly to the outside world. It spread to Europe and America, causing global panic.

In order to keep the epidemic out of the country, Chen Wei led a team to Africa in spite of difficulties. In 2014, the worlds first new gene vaccine against Ebola virus was successfully developed. Soon after, Chen Weis team obtained the access certificate for overseas clinical trials, and achieved a zero breakthrough in overseas clinical trials of independently developed vaccines in China.

In 2015, Chen Weis team entered Sierra Leone and started the second phase of clinical trials there, which built a safety barrier for the people in the epidemic area and showed the image of China as a great country capable of contributing wisdom to the health of the people of the world.

She was asked, what is Ebola? Who is the use of your Ebola vaccine? At that time, Chen Wei did not answer.

Others say that without the outbreak of Ebola in 2014, what you have done will not be in vain.

If the vaccine is not used, I feel very grateful that at least people all over the world are safe. This is a normal thing for us. I dont know what my predecessors and senior scientists are doing all their lives, but I know that when the country or the military needs us to show our strength, we can always see the strength of the military, from SARS, avian flu, Wenchuan, Olympic security to Ebola.

In the field of biosafety prevention and control, they are the front line. A colleague told her, Chen Wei, you dont need to do any research on devils nature , but she cant think of anthrax, plague, smallpox, Ebola and other powerful microorganisms. When she thought that these things might be used in wars and terrorist attacks, bringing disastrous consequences to the country and the nation, she had a sense of mission and urgency to cast biological shield .

In 2016, Chen Wei won CCTV-10 Chinas top ten scientific and technological innovation figures in 2015 for her outstanding contribution to anti Egypt, and Professor Tu Youyou, who won the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for discovering artemisinin, was also selected.

In November 2019, Chen Wei, 53, was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering.

Chen Wei was also regarded as the seed player in the 100 meter race for the development of the new coronavirus vaccine because of her important contributions in many tough battles such as the fight against SARS and Ebola.

On the 5th day of her arrival in Wuhan, Chen Wei met with Zhang Dingyu, who was suffering from progressive frostbite and his wife was infected with a new type of coronavirus, but still stuck to the front line. She said to president Zhang: I am very moved by your deeds.

President Zhang replied to her: This is each other.

On January 31, with the letter of the Ministry of science and technology of the peoples Republic of China on asking for assistance in collecting blood samples of convalescent patients with new coronavirus pneumonia, 22 convalescent patients expressed their willingness to ask experts to test whether the blood samples meet the standards for plasma donation. Some of them are frail and have difficulty collecting blood. Chen Wei was very moved.

Im a mother, a daughter and a wife. I want my family to be healthy, and I want people all over the world to be healthy.

As a soldier, there are only two states

One is to fight, the other is to prepare for war

We are in the epidemic area now. We are going to fight

And prepare for war

Thats what weve accumulated in scientific research before

We need to mobilize the soldiers who have been training for thousands of days

At the fastest speed

This is Chen Weis attitude.
