Russian military delegation will visit Turkey to discuss the situation in Syria

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier said he called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to put pressure on Syrian President Assad to stop the Syrian governments offensive in Idlib province and lift the siege on the Turkish observation station, otherwise the Turkish side would launch military operations in response.

The presidents of Russia and Turkey have agreed that a Russian military delegation will visit in the near future. The position of our observation station in Idlib province is still in accordance with the Sochi agreement, which will not change in any way, and the boundary of the degraded conflict zone will remain unchanged.

Kalin pointed out that Turkey and Russia also reached an agreement on the location of the two observation stations in Idlib province. We will also discuss with the Russian military the security of our outposts, he said

The armed conflict in Syria has continued since March 2011. According to the memorandum signed by Russia, Turkey and Iran in Astana (now Nursultan), the capital of Kazakhstan, in May 2017, four conflict degraded areas have been set up in the northwest of Syria, including Idlib Province, central Homs Province, Damascus suburb and southern Syria. Three of them were taken over by Damascus in 2018.

The fourth conflict degraded area is known as the Idlib conflict degraded area, which is mainly located in Idlib Province, part of which is located in rataka Province, HAMA province and Aleppo province. The degraded area of the conflict is still out of Damascuss control, and most of it is occupied by the terrorist organization vanquish Sharm front.

In September 2018, Russia and Turkey agreed to establish a demilitarized zone in Idlib. There are more than ten armed groups active in the area, with a total number of about 300000 armed elements.

On October 22, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Erdogan met in Sochi and agreed on a 10 point memorandum of understanding on the situation in Syria.

According to the memorandum, Kurdish forces withdrew to a distance of 30 kilometers from the Syrian Turkish border, while Russia and Turkey began to patrol in the area 10 kilometers to the West and east of the spring of peace operation area (except kamishli city) from the Syrian Turkish border from November 1, 2019 to prevent the infiltration of armed elements into the security zone.
