Beijing Zhangjiakou high speed railway from the Great Wall to the snow country announces the speed of China to the Winter Olympics

Bach opens the envelope. Beijing! The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing! Zhang Shijie and his colleagues cheer!

At the same time, at the foot of Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing, Beijing, Yang Cunxin, the head of Qinglongqiao station of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway, guarded the duty room. The one hundred year old track outside the gate is as quiet as ever.

At the foot of the Great Wall

In 1908, Tianjin young students were attracted by the Olympic Games from the West. They sent out the three Olympic questions which were widely spread later. That is regarded as the starting point of the Chinese Olympic dream.

In the same year, Qinglongqiao station was completed. Zhan Tianyou, one of Chinas first young children to stay in the United States, was appointed chief engineer of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway. In the most difficult section from Nankou to Badaling, he designed zigzag lines based on foreign experience, which overcame the 33 u2030 gradient and cut the excavation length of Badaling tunnel by 40%. Qinglongqiao station is located at the turning point of Zhi line, where the track goes in and out like the Chinese character man.

Yang Cunxin is a treasure of this history. His father moved to Qinglongqiao station in 1951, where he was born in 1962. Although he didnt like his fathers work day and night, there was no better choice. In 1981, when his father retired, Yang Cunxin, 19, returned to Qinglong bridge to join the class.

That year, Zhang Shijie was born in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, on the other side of the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway. The train is an unforgettable part of his childhood memory. In the early years, it took my grandma five or six hours to go back to my hometown of Tangshan to Beijing. What impressed me most on the way was Qinglongqiao station, where the train stopped to change its locomotive.

At that time, the station was busy, and 18 or 19 trains came to Beijing one way a day. In the 1990s, the only train to Badaling passed by. During the peak period, thousands of passengers got on and off the platform. The platform was crowded with people. Often before the train stopped, the people who traveled to the Great Wall jumped in through the window. That was the most nervous time for Yang Cunxin and the station staff.

In 1991, Yang Cunxin, like his father, became a stationmaster, but this was totally inconsistent with his idea.

Between the great wall and the red tiles and green eaves of Qinglongqiao station, people in the car think its a beautiful place. Yang Cunxin outside the car didnt want to stay. The work is simple and repetitive. Every day and night in a shift, you can go out when you have a car. If you dont have a car, you can only stay in the cabin. You cant do anything irrelevant to your work. You cant sleep in the middle of the night.

Its not normal for anyone who has been determined to work all his life from the beginning. A young man of twenty years old, who would like to keep his head in the ditch.

He didnt wait for the chance to change his job, but he knew that the responsibility for safety was great and he didnt dare to slack off. 28 year stationmaster, only in the year of marriage by the deputy stationmaster strong demand take care of, went home for a new years Eve. This comes from my fathers imperceptible and admonition: if you dont like it any more, you have to do well.

Summer in Beijing

On August 8, 2008, 29 big footprints bloomed along the central axis of Beijing. The eyes of the world focus on birds nest. The 29th Summer Olympic Games opened! After a hundred years, the unparalleled summer in Beijing has successfully answered the three Olympic questions.

Yang Cunxin only watched the grand opening ceremony on the TV in the stationmasters room. In this small station in the corner of Badaling cemetery, only birds can be heard unless there is a car. In the past few years, with the development of the road network, the number of trains passing Qinglongqiao station has gradually decreased. Just two days before the opening of the Olympic Games, S2 line of suburban railway was opened to make technical stop at Qinglong bridge. The station officially bid farewell to the passenger transport function, and suddenly became quiet.

A few months before that, the Beijing Industrial Heritage survey team came here, and the further restoration of the centenary station was put on the agenda.

Taiji diagram, corrugated iron, parapet, waiting room for men and women The old faces were restored one by one under the guidance of experts from the capital museum. The next spring, the old objects were sealed in the glass cabinet, the old photos were hung on the wall, and the exhibition was held in the station building. Rusty tracks, stone steles carved with Suzhou code, granite windowsills equipped with waterproof grooves, all have stories in one brick and one stone. From primary school students to foreign friends, Yang Cunxin, as an interpreter, received a batch of visitors.

His interest in history is growing. I was born here and Im used to things around me, but I didnt know anything about them in the past. Zhan Tianyous bronze statue stands on the platform. When the passengers can go up and down, people often ask why the image of Zhan gongtianyous image is not alone? Ive been asked a lot. As a stationmaster, if I cant answer it, I cant hang on my face. He went to consult Zhan Tianyous descendants, and looked up ancient books, and learned that this implied to see an image is to see a person.

These traces of history are becoming more and more interesting. Yang Cunxin didnt want to leave any more. I think my fate with this station is here.

Zhang Shijie also did not expect to grow up with the railway will be a deep bond. He graduated from civil engineering in 2005, just because he saw the prosperity of the unit area at that time. He came to Beijing, joined China Railway Design Group, and engaged in the survey and design of railway subgrade.

On August 1, 2008, a week before the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, the Beijing Tianjin Intercity Railway, as a key supporting project for the Olympic Games, was opened to traffic, opening the era of high-speed rail in China. Zhang Shijie, who was just burying himself in drawing, didnt expect to step into the current of the times.

China speed

Ten years to sharpen a sword.

As early as 2009, Zhang Shijie began to participate in the investigation of the Hebei section of Beijing Zhangjiakou high speed railway. From donghuayuan town of Huailai County to Zhangjiakou City, more than 90 kilometers, he and his colleagues walked step by step, more than once. At that time, in his eyes, the railway was the way home, but by July 31, 2015, the weight was totally different.

On that day, the 2022 Winter Olympics venue was announced. Zhang Shijie said, Chongli railway is ours! u2014u2014Zhangjiakou is a joint host city, and Chongli district is the venue for snow sports. Chongli branch line of Beijing Zhangjiakou high speed railway connecting Beijing and Chongli is put on the agenda. The world depends on Chinas speed.

He was worried after the excitement. The time is too tight. The two lines need to be opened at the same time. The construction drawings of Jingzhang have been made. The design of Chongli line has just begun.

I can only bite my teeth. Zhang Shijie, who just became the head of subgrade discipline in 2014, led the team into the task. Apart from sleeping, Im surveying or drawing. The unit has a canteen, but they cant get away with it. They order takeout and send it to the work station. I wish this meal could go straight to my stomach without eating.

More than 20 people in the team are younger than Zhang Shijie. Dont do big projects dont know, there is a real invisible pressure, let you constantly self spur.

On December 30, 2019, Beijing was freezing, while Zhang Shijies heart was full of heat. With the Fuxing intelligent EMU g8811 leaving Beijing North railway station, Beijing Zhangjiakou high speed railway officially opened.

The train sped all the way to the Great Wall. It goes through Badaling from the underground and joins the old Jingzhang line at Qinglongqiao station, adding a horizontal line to the word human 110 years ago and writing a big word.

Just above the tunnel, Yang Cunxin was on duty as usual. He knew that this new era express was passing through from the bottom, and the top of the cave was only four meters from the nearest place to the track under his feet. He cant imagine how this was done, just as more than 110 years ago, foreigners didnt believe that the Chinese could build the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway on their own.

The construction of this railway enables us Chinese to stand up as upright as human beings. Yang Cunxin hopes it will always be a living museum. Todays high-speed rail is developing so fast and so well, but where is its origin? Here is the first railway designed and constructed by Chinese people!

In July 2022, Yang Cunxin will retire. Having spent so many important moments in the station building, he looked forward to taking the high-speed rail to the Winter Olympics. Later, it suddenly became clear that the Winter Olympics could not catch up at the beginning of the year, not at the end of the year. He had some regrets, but soon relieved: then stand on the last post!

In less than an hour, Zhang Shijie got off from Chongli Prince city station with a snowboard on his back, took the 10 minute bus, and arrived at Yunding paradise. In the snow field where the Winter Olympic Games will be held, he skated happily and then returned to Beijing in the evening.

On the high-speed railway where I drew my own drawings, I went back and forth to my old home and new home, switching between work and hobbies, which was a unique and precious experience. Whats more, Zhang Shijie lamented that he had the chance to catch up with the rapid development of Chinas high-speed rail. By the end of 2019, the operation mileage of Chinas high-speed rail will be 35000 kilometers, ranking first in the world. Its lucky to be able to do railway design in this era. Yang Cunxin is also very proud, because he was able to witness Chinas transformation from introducing and learning in that year to leading the world, and he was able to comfort his ancestors. Spring begins on February 4, 2020. Cangshan Xiongjun, the Great Wall, more than 100 years only changed the world. The worlds first intelligent high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour roars past here, like Jiaolong crossing mountains and mountains, carrying the glory and dream of the Chinese nation, heading for the unprecedented double Olympic city and the coming spring.
