By the end of the day, the Dow was up 143.78 points, or 0.51%, to 28399.81; the Nasdaq was up 122.47 points, or 1.34%, to 9273.40; the S & P 500 was up 23.40 points, or 0.73%, to 3248.92.

Popular Chinese stocks rose collectively, with Alibaba up 2.84%, JD up 4.01%, baidu up 5.61%; Hewlett Packard pharmaceutical up 94.32%, iqiyi up 7.24%, Weibo up 3.5%, pinduoduo up 1.62%, Weilai auto up 7.14% and Netease up 2.72%.

In terms of stocks, Tesla closed up nearly 20% at a record high of $780.

In terms of economic data, the ISM manufacturing PMI was 50.9 in January, with market expectations of 48.5 and 47.2 in December, the ISM reported on Monday. According to the data, the new orders index of US manufacturing industry has reached a new high since May 2019.
