Bach: the Olympic Games must not be a platform to promote the potential division of political purposes

In 2020, Bach urged athletes not to hold political demonstrations and respect their competitors at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in his new years message. The president of the International Olympic Committee reiterated his opposition to the increasing politicization of sports, saying that the politicization of sports will only deepen existing differences.

Article 50 of the rules of the IOC stipulates that no demonstration or political, religious or ethnic propaganda of any kind is allowed in any Olympic stadium or other area. The Olympic Games have always been a global platform for athletes and their sports and should never be a platform to advance political or any other potentially divisive purpose, Bach said

He added: we firmly oppose the growing politicization of sports, only in this way can we achieve the mission of World Solidarity and peaceful competition. Respect for fellow athletes also means respect for the unique Olympics and dont distract yourself with your own political views, he stressed
