U.S. air strikes kill Iranian officers and the supreme leader of Iran vows severe retaliation
Irans top leader Ayatollah Khamenei vowed to take severe revenge on the US air strikes in Iraq Wednesday, killing a senior Iranian officer, AFP reported. Three rockets landed near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of the 3rd Iraqi time, killing and injuring many people, including Qasim Sulaimani, the commander of the Holy City Brigade, a special force under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran. The Pentagon later confirmed that the US armed forces attacked general suleymani on Trumps order. Khamenei said on social media that although Sulaimani was killed, his efforts will not be in vain, and Iran will carry out severe retaliation against the attack. Meanwhile, Khamenei also announced a three-day mourning for the death of Sulaimani.
