Mr Ghosn, 65, of Lebanese origin, was born in Brazil and acquired French and Lebanese citizenship. Ghosns wife lives in Lebanon, where he is believed to have entered over the weekend.

In Japan, Mr. Ghosn is accused of failing to report huge income and transferring personal investment losses to Nissan. He is granted bail but cannot leave Japan. The court of Japan was scheduled to hear the case of Ghosn in April 2020.

Ghosn confirmed this week that he was in Lebanon. According to Hironaka Linton, a Japanese lawyer who is a member of his legal team, Ghosn previously placed his French, Brazilian and Lebanese passports in the custody of his legal team under bail regulations. The Japanese Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that Ghosn left Japan under pseudonyms and forged documents, or with the help of others. Lebanons MTV television reported that Ghosn, hiding in a cargo box, left a local airport in Japan, transferred through Ankara, the Turkish capital, and finally arrived in Beirut.
