Russian officials call on the United States to return oil fields in northern Syria to Syria

Beijing, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) - Dmitry polyanski, the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations, said at a UN Security Council meeting that the United States should return the oil field to Syria, and the move made by the United States looks like robbery.

Polyanski said Syrian oil does not belong to the United States, but to Syrian nationals. In front of Syrian nationals, the U.S. governments actions look like robbery..

The deputy representative of Russia said that the return of the oil field to Syria is a practical contribution that the United States can make to the humanitarian assistance to the people of the country.

It is reported that about 90% of Syrias oil field exploitation is concentrated on the East Bank of the Euphrates River. In October, U.S. President trump announced the withdrawal of U.S. troops from northern Syria, but soon said there were still some left behind.

Trump said the goal of the United States is to protect the oil fields and keep them away from extremist group Islamic state militants, whose former oil fields were their main economic source.
